Day 6 - Sunday 9th March 2003

I'd been busy last weekend finising off the making of a case for a computer at work, and yesterday (Saturday) I'd been down to see my Mum, whose birthday it was earlier in the week - as a result, this was the first day of back on this project.

On day 5, I'd made the bottom panels for one of the legs, with the aim to make them flush with the bottom panels when completed. The only problem was that I was unhappy with the hinge arrangement, in that the static parts needed clearancing to accomodate the legs. The way to fix this was to section the leg so that it didn't require such clearancing:

After deciding that this looked good, I made the other leg:

Note that although it looks like the same leg, the model is actually turned around (since the welder is closer to the right hand side of the table than the left).

Now, it was time to make the front leg's panel and foot. A similar scheme to the side legs was adopted, but this time giving more space around the panels:

First, the static panel was made:

Next, the foot was made - this time, however, it did not need a universal joint since it only needs to move in one direction:

And that completed the legs. You can see here that all the legs are nicely flush:

All that was left to do was to lower the undercarriage, and see how it fitted together:

Note that the front foot is slightly skewed (you may not be able to see this) - this would've been one of those times when a pillar drill would've been very useful. I may correct this later on...
